Summary of Think and Grow Rich

"Think and Grow Rich" is a motivational book written by Napolean Hill in 1937. 75 years later it is still considered one of the top self help books of all time.

Who should read it? In this article let's do a quick summary of "Think and Grow Rich" to see if it could help you.

Andrew Carnegie was a successful industrialist that wanted to create a success blueprint anyone could follow to become more successful in their life. He believed that what you spent your time thinking about everyday had a direct effect on the outcome of your success.

Napolean Hill was chosen by Carnegie to prove that goal setting and motivational thoughts were needed to put in action your own plan for succeeding. He interviewed over 500 successful people to see what set them apart from people who were not as successful.

Although "Think and Grow Rich" is used primarily by business and sales people, anyone can benefit from this book if they want to change the success results they are getting in their own life. Hill was able to prove that positive thinking plays an important role in both business and personal lives.

So how do you do this? Here are a few of the high points/

	1. It all starts with having a desire to succeed. You are taught to write down exactly what you desire and to read it over and over until it becomes a reality. This includes writing down the date you want to achieve your goal.

	2. You must have faith that you are going to reach your goals. Not only are you going to read them every day, you are going to trust in a supreme being to help you even when times are tough.

	3. Napoleon Hill also discusses autosuggestion and the power of the subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind never sleeps and therefore we can program it with positive thoughts even when we are not conscious.

In summary "Think and Grow Rich" continues to be so popular today because it teaches success principles that anyone can implement to become more successful in all areas of their lives.

In one of the books I published a few years ago "30 Day Total Business Makeover" I had mentioned these three questions every prospect is asking before buying from you!

The key point is that you must have answers to these questions and must bring them out repeatedly in your marketing and sales literature and presentations. Whether you are aware or not, people are asking these questions.

So here are the three questions:

1. Why should I buy your product or services?

Some products/services do not need to o much explanation. If you have a flat tire and the tire is beyond repair, you are well aware that you must go to a Tire Store. Which tire store will you go to – will be determined by asking the second question.

A chiropractor needs to explain and give reasons why they should use chiropractic care because people do not still connect good health and strong immunity with using a chiropractor consistently.

When do people hire my services? Typically it is because they are frustrated with where they are at and MUST make changes to get to the next level in their business.

2. Why should I buy from you?

What separates you from your competition? Can you make a compelling argument using testimonies and tangible examples why working with you is the best choice your prospects can make? This is also called USP – Unique Selling Proposition.

I offer 30 day money back guarantees if they have followed through and not seen any results through coaching. Also I focus on unlimited support with daily accountability during the first 90 days to ensure my clients develop positive, business-building habits! No other coach that I know of does that.

3. Why should I buy NOW?

We know why we need to take a medicine prescribed by a doctor NOW! We know why we need that tire NOW. But how about your service? Why should your prospect buy now?

3.

James Spader, as Robert California, interviews for the position of a Manager and gets the position of CEO!

Maybe that only happens in movies and TV shows. But let me ask you – is not selling about guts – being fearless?

When was the last time you approached a prospect or a referral partner that you felt was out of your league? If you have not done that lately – it is time yo expanded your comfort zone!

By the way, I will be talking about fears in prospecting and selling on Friday, April 13 in Troy.

What is negotiation?

Simply put – it is asking for what you want in exchange for what you are willing to give. If you are a great negotiator you get what you want and if you are not a great negotiator, you do not get what you want and settle for much less than what you want.

Do you feel that you are a great negotiator or do you feel you are a poor negotiator?

Here is the first step most people miss.

The first step is to know that you are negotiating all the time. Every moment you are interacting with people, you are negotiating. You may not call it negotiation but that is exactly what you are doing.

People who are poor negotiators do not realize that they are negotiating. People who are great negotiators are always focused on what they want and every time they are talking to people, they are asking for what they want. They are finding out ways they can get what they are looking for.

So let me ask you – are you a great negotiator?

If you are not a great negotiator then the next time you are interacting with people, notice whether you are willing to ask for what you want or not. I promise you that if you focus on what you want you will find a way to ask for what you want!

This is just the first step in becoming a skillful negotiator.

Do you want to dramatically improve your negotiation skills?

Initially when I started my speaking career, I used to make this mistake a lot. At that time I did not even know that I was making this mistake!

It was not until later that I learned from my speaking mentors that I was making this mistake. I hope you are not!

So what is that mistake and how can you overcome it?

Cliff Suttle and I will cover this in more detail at our seminar on Friday at Quality Inn.

(Click on the tab "Sell Without Selling" and find out how you can get a free pass.)

Here is the problem – most presenters go quickly into solving the problem for their prospects. The prospect does not feel that you have really listened to his or her problem!

So what should you do?

Empathize and create a connection with the audience first. The audience wants to know – do you really understand his or her situation? Do you truly care? What challenges have you had to handle that gives me a sense of confidence that you know how to help me?

Put this part in front and you will have a much better chance at getting success in your presentations. If you live close to Troy – join me on Friday to learn from my good friend Cliff Suttle. He has trained politicians, olympians and other professionals.

Call 248-498-7133 to get a free spot if you are a first-time attendee.
